JOHNSON BATH

The Johnson’s 1920’s Long Beach California Bungalow, like many homes that reach ripe old ages, was literally falling apart. Starting with the subfloor that was ready to give way, to the aging plumbing, all the way up to the lack of ventilation in the ceiling, they knew that a full bathroom remodel was the only answer. Their question however was, “Is there any way to keep the 1920’s character and still bring it into the modern era?” Planning and sourcing the right materials, fixtures and finishes was the first step in answering their question.

Keeping true to the 1920’s period, Chris and his team pulled together hexagonal mosaic tiles and subway field tiles, fluted glass, cabinet designs inspired by the old California bungalows, modern fixtures that maintained an antique look, and even researched paint colors that pulled in the past while still maintaining a current look. Additional modern conveniences and luxuries were added but were sensitive in their selection so as not to upstage the look of the past. A Jacuzzi tub with clean lines, marble countertops that complemented the blacks in the tile yet added a warmth to the room and a frameless shower that was there but didn’t get in the way of the period details all were designed to help the Johnsons enjoy and appreciate their new space.

Since the Johnson’s bathroom remodel has been completed, the transformation has left them with an enjoyable retreat where they can not only get ready for the day, but also has provided them with a place to relax after they’ve tackled it. The compliments pour in from friends and guests alike and they all sound familiar. They all can’t believe how the character of the bathroom has remained in the past, while the amenities have prepared this bathroom for the future.
